Spain will play the world champions in the quarter finals of Euro 2008 at the weekend and Xabi Alonso is hoping his performance against Greece last night has earned a place in the starting line up against Italy.
"It's tough to stay in the team because I know that the players who have been playing have managed to get us through," said the Liverpool midfielder.
"But whatever happens - if I am playing or if I am on the bench - I will be ready to play.
"I think it was a good performance but I don't know if it was the best one [by me].
"We are happy because most of the players tonight have not been playing regularly and it was a good show from all of us - we have to be delighted with that.
"This shows that the whole squad is good enough."
