Alonso loving Liverpool

The £10.7m buy from Real Sociedad was astonished to see so many young Kopites proudly wearing his name on their shirts and he already feels an integral part of the Anfield set-up.

Alonso said: "I have noticed the great thing that is this club and the different fans it has, all the younger fans wear the shirt in the street and in Anfield there is a special atmosphere.

"What hit me even more was that before making my debut or being presented as a Liverpool player, I saw people walking around with my name on the back of their shirts.

"I am very contented in Liverpool. I have not been here long but everything has gone very well. They have treated me phenomenally well. It is a change and a new experience, but I am prepared to adapt fast.

"Benitez has told us to mix in with the other players to learn English. I do not believe that it is detrimental to have a number of Spaniards at the club.

"This is a new project, with a new manager and new players. It is necessary to get to know each other and, if we obtain the ideas that the manager wants, I believe that we are going to be a good team.

"Gerrard has impressed me very much. He is the complete player, with a lot of strength and physical conditioning, but with an exquisite strike of the ball."
