Alonso praised

Alonso gave an assured performance in the centre of Liverpool's midfield as the Reds beat Man Utd 2-1 on Saturday. After the game Steven Gerrard was full of praise for the Spaniard.

"I would like to say a word for Xabi[Alonso], this has been a very difficult time for him right up to the transfer window shutting," said the Reds' skipper.

"He didn't know whether he was coming or going, but he got man of the match against United and that says a lot about him."
