Alonso ready for Sunday clash

With Luis Garcia, Djibril Cisse, Milan Baros and Djimi Traore all out of action for the match on Sunday, Rafa Benitez will be forced to rely again on either Neil Mellor, Harry Kewell or Sinama Pongolle up front.

But Spaniard Alonso believes the players available are ready for the match, and is sure he can force his way back into the side after being dropped for the mid-week defeat at Monaco.

He said: "It's up the manager who plays and I accept that. I just want to make sure I'm ready for Sunday's game. It's a pity we have so many injuries but the players we do have will be ready for this game. We can't say this is a bad time to play Arsenal. We have to be strong and just think about the game."
