Alonso described Smicer as a 'really nice guy', and said he had a positive attitude which had helped the Reds.
"I will always remember him as being a very good team-mate. He was really funny and is a really good player who did really important things for this club. He was always smiling and he brought a smile to the changing room. He is a really nice guy," Alonso said.
