Alonso wants big performance

Liverpool have failed to beat the big sides this season since their Community Shield win over Chelsea back in August. Since then Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal have all beaten the Reds in the league and the Gunners have also knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup.

Xabi Alonso says the Reds must beat the big teams if they're to keep their season alive and he hopes that they start tonight.

"We haven't managed to beat Chelsea, Manchester United or Arsenal in the major competitions this season, and that's something that worries us," said the Basque.

"Against the big teams, we aren't performing or getting the results that we might have expected.

"In the Premiership, they all still have to come to Anfield and we have to show we can get results against them.

"But the defeat to Arsenal on Saturday makes us more determined to beat them on Tuesday. It is a good game for us.

"Obviously it's not normal to play in two different cups against the same team in the same week but we now have a quick chance to make amends on Tuesday."
