"There's always a feeling of optimism during every pre-season and this year is no different. Expectations will always be high at Liverpool and we are desperate to make up for the disappointment of last season," the Basque told liverpoolfc.tv.
"Not winning a trophy was very disappointing. Okay, we reached the final of the Champions League but we failed to win it and no-one remembers the losers so will be going all out to do better next season.
"To do that we must improve and play consistently to the levels we know we are capable of. It's really important we get off to a good start because that is something we've lacked in three seasons I've been at the club and I don't expect we'll be making the same mistake again."
