Anderson has point to prove

Anderson was released by West Brom because the Baggies thought he would never make it as a Premiership player. However, the winger impressed Paco Herrera so much during his time at Hull that the Reds were willing to release England under 21's international Jon Welsh in a swap deal so they could snap Anderson up on his 17th birthday.

Anderson's good form since joining Liverpool has helped take the Reds to the FA Youth Cup final and earned him a place on the first team bench when the Reds hosted Benfica at Anfield in the Champions League.

However, things could have been different. Anderson admits he was on the verge of giving up football after West Brom released him and only picked himself up after encouragement from his father.

"I thought I'd done enough to get a deal at West Brom but they just said they didn't think I'd ever be a Premiership player," said Anderson.

"After the knock backs I didn't think I wanted to do this any more. I wasn't sure I wanted to be a footballer. But my dad made sure I knuckled down and gave it everything.

"I wouldn't be at Liverpool now without him. He was an apprentice at Hull but maybe didn't have the right attitude to make it all the way. When he saw that starting to creep into me he was there with the advice."
