Gerard Houllier has decided not to buy the onloan PSG striker and despite popular belief, it is not because of the reputation of his brothers or because of any cuts they may have been demanding as part of the transfer (get Tuesday night's Insider update!).
Anelka, who could now join Manchester City, said: "I wanted to stay at Liverpool. I thought that we had an agreement and I feel that Liverpool have let me down. They have not explained why they don't want to keep me."
