"If the Liverpool fans can help by generating a typical European atmosphere at Anfield tomorrow then it will be a big bonus," said Smith.
"Particularly with the Marseille fans renowned for being so supportive back in France.
"I expect Liverpool to do the business tomorrow, but no one should think it will be easy and concentration at the back will be vital because any slip-ups could be costly."
