Speaking on his website at Icons.com, Bronckhorst said: "The last week has seen a lot of coverage of the Jamie Carragher incident, and I have to say that while I totally condemn what he did, as a footballer I can understand his reaction. The last thing players want to see is supporters throwing things onto to pitch.

"I believe the Arsenal fans are usually pretty well behaved. They are passionate, which is great, and mostly it's a good-natured passion. But, as always, you only need a small number to act badly for all Arsenal fans to suffer. Of course, anyone throwing anything on to the pitch should be banned for life, and hopefully everyone will get the message that it's not the way their teams want their support."
