The 25-year-old midfielder recently embarked upon a lengthy trip to Bulgaria with his Anfield colleagues as Liverpool won through against Levski Sofia in the UEFA Cup third round.

Kewell's controversial manager Bernie has insisted that his client cannot travel long distances due to a chronic ankle complaint, but Australian Soccer boss John O'Neill has revealed that the Soceroos will seek further verification from their talismanic playmaker.

O'Neill said: We're getting some clarification on that. Certainly Harry has a chronic ankle injury. We're not disbelieving him. We just need a bit of our own verification.

"Clearly we would love to see Harry Kewell playing in a Socceroo jersey on every possible occasion. If there is bona fide reasons why he can't, we'll get to the bottom of that."
