Babbel hits out at rumours

The former German international has fought back from a potentially fatal disease to force himself into contention for the Reds this season. Since being substituted after 40 minutes against Aston Villa - a decision he reacted angrily to at the time - Babbel has been restricted to a number of fleeting appearances for the reserves. Babbel, though, has revealed that he is more then willing to stay at Anfield.

Babbel said: I've no idea how these rumours have started. I've got a three-year contract and have absolutely no plans to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

"All I know is that the club aren't looking to get rid of me, but are giving me all the time I need to get fully fit again.

"I think it's right for me to be playing in the reserves, but only because the necessary consistency is missing."
