Babbel realises 'big dream'

The German defender started his first Premiership game for around fifteen months against Sunderland at the weekend, and picked up the man of the match award for a typically marauding display at right fullback.

And now Babbel has revealed that playing against the Black Cats realised his 'big dream' of returning to League action for the Reds.

"The gaffer pulled me into the office the day before the Sunderland game and asked me if I was ready. I said I was and he said 'well you're my man for tomorrow's game then'.

"I have worked hard on my fitness and was pleased to play in the Worthington Cup earlier this month. But coming back to the Premiership was always my big dream and never once did I think it wouldn't happen for me.

"To play at Anfield again in the Premiership was a great feeling and I felt good throughout the 90 minutes. I felt strong and comfortable and that was a big boost for me.

"It was just a pity we couldn't win the game. We had all of the chances but just couldn't find the goal which would have won us the three points.

"I had a great chance very early in the game and when the ball went over the bar I thought to myself 'what a return that would have been for me.' After the match the boss said it was a good defensive clearance!

"I'm just glad to be back. I don't know if I will stay in the team now but, to be honest, that's not the important thing. The only thing that matters is the team playing well and winning points."
