Ballack was sent off in yesterday's game for a nasty stamp on Momo Sissoko. The German midfielder apologised to Sissoko after the final whistle.

"It was a bad situation for me. I came in too late," said Ballack.

"I didn't want to hurt him but I've seen it on TV and it doesn't look good. I wanted to say sorry to him.

"It is the first straight red card of my career.

"I told Sissoko I have no problem with him at all. In the first half when he could have been sent off for a second yellow card I went to him and told him to calm down and be careful."
