Ban for Owen and Hamann

Gerard Houllier has revealed that none of his squad will be attending this weekend's famous Grand National event because the boss wants his quad to remain focused on next week's Champions League game.

Horse lovers Michael Owen and Didi Hamann for example will be unable to attend the meeting despite the Reds having no game until Tuesday. Instead the duo along with every other Liverpool FC player and Gerard Houllier himself, have all agreed to watch the event on television.

There's no fuss, no moaning and no sulking.

"You won't see anyone from the Liverpool squad at the Grand National tomorrow," said Houllier.

"This is another hallmark of the great commitment my players have to achieving things.

"They are focused only on next Tuesday's match. I have also even turned down a kind invitation to attend the event myself."
