Barnes: England can beat Brazil

Former Liverpool hero John Barnes believes England are capable of turning over Brazil when the two sides clash in the World Cup on Friday.

Barnes believes the team mustn't fear the Brazilians but they must respect them.

"I don't expect England to outplay Brazil but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they beat them," said Barnes.

"England can beat Brazil, no question. Brazil will cause all sorts of problems but England should have no fear. The key is to respect Brazil but not fear them.

"England against Brazil is always one of the first fixtures you look for. England and Argentina was a big match but playing Brazil will be an even bigger and more wonderful occasion.

"My goal will probably be replayed in the build-up and hype before the game. But that was a friendly with nothing riding on it. This is a World Cup quarter-final and there's so much at stake. The pressure will be enormous on both sides."
