The maverick marksman admits that he would have left the club this summer if Gerard Houllier had remained in Merseyside but he is keen to make an impact under Rafael Benitez following five strikes for the Czech Republic in Portugal thus far.

Baros said: "It is nice to be ahead of Ruud van Nistelrooy in terms of scoring but I don't care about this competition - I just want to win the tournament.

"I come back to Liverpool on July 19. I definitely want to play with Mr Benitez.

"I have to speak with him and he will tell me whether he is counting on me or not and we will see what happens."
