Baros hoping to face Reds

Baros left Liverpool for Aston Villa back in August after discovering he was surplus to requirements at Anfield. Baros scored on his Villa debut but has since picked up a couple of injuries. However, the Czech striker hopes to be fit when his former club travel to Villa Park on Saturday.

"The game against Manchester City on Monday looks too soon for me. I've not trained for three weeks and still feel some pain when I jog. I could be out for a few more weeks if I play too soon," said Baros.

"Hopefully I'll be fit for the Liverpool game. I'd like to face them because there is always a special motivation in facing one of your former clubs but I have nothing to prove to Liverpool and there are no hard feelings. I have a lot of friends there.

"When I left it was not about me and Rafael Benitez. It was about Liverpool and Villa and the future. I came to England and had to learn the language and settle down in Liverpool and for the first season I wasn't successful.

"In the first season I played just 15 minutes in the Champions League. The next season was quite okay and I scored a few goals but then I was injured. I came back from that, then it was Euro 2004 where I did well, and then the Liverpool manager changed. I started well last season and scored 11 goals in 20 games. Then I picked up an injury again and when I came back I could not find my previous form."
