Baros ready to lead European chase

The 22-year-old forward gave the French coach a timely reminder of his unique talents by hitting the net for his country in midweek and he is desperate to reproduce his international form at Liverpool in the coming weeks.

Baros said: "I started well when I came back from injury and felt very sharp. But then I had a spell when I didn't play for four consecutive games. Obviously it was disappointing for me not to play in those matches, but you have to accept it.

"It's frustrating because I felt I'd played good games before being left out but it's the boss who makes those decisions and you have to respect that.

"I had a few chances against Leicester, particularly when Danny Murphy passed the ball to me near the end. I wanted to take an extra touch past the defender but the ball got stuck a bit under my feet and I couldn't strike it properly.

"It was frustrating because we could have won the game. We needed those points because I think we have to consider the draw at Leicester to be two points dropped.

"I think Leicester had only one or two opportunities even though they could have scored in the last minute.

"The good thing is we're still a point ahead of Newcastle. We know how important it is to finish in the top four and as long as we concentrate on getting our own points there's nothing anyone else can do.

"When you look at our fixtures, there are games we would be expected to win and we also have to play Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle, which people will think will be our toughest matches.

"But you know in football nothing always works out as expected and sometimes it's good to play against the biggest sides to get the best out of ourselves. Maybe it's those games which turn out to be the most important.

"Newcastle must also play Arsenal, which will be difficult for them, but we must not presume how that will go. At least we know if it goes to the last game, we will have home advantage.

"We know the ambition to play in the Champions League is entirely up to us in these last eight games."

Baros will bid to reignite his season at home to Blackburn on Sunday - the very club against whom his campaign was cruelly curtailed by an accidental clash with on-loan Red Markus Babbel.

Baros added: "What happened was accidental. Blackburn play their best football away from home so we have to be very focused. It will be difficult but we know we have the quality to win this match. It's important we do it."
