Bayer Leverkusen v Liverpool - early team news

Last updated : 09 April 2002 By Kop Talk News

Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier says his team are going to Germany to win this evening despite Bayer Leverkusen's threat to go for an all-out attack.

The Reds go into the game with a 1-0 advantage and if they score just one goal tonight, Leverkusen would need three to knock us out. Because of the 1-0 advantage, Bayer Leverkusen insist they'll be coming at us for the full 90 minutes.

Speaking earlier today, a confident Houllier said: "The team which travelled to Barcelona twice, Roma twice, Galatasary, Porto, Olympiakos and all those other places will be able to cope with the situation in front of them now.

"We will give it our best shot and try to keep the momentum going. In fact, we won't just try, we will do it."

John Arne Riise is expected to play on the left side of midfield this evening with Jamie Carragher holding the left-back berth behind him. Abel Xavier is expected to start on the right hand side of the defence with the usual H&H partnership at the centre of the defence. Owen and Heskey look certain to start up front.

Probable: Dudek, Xavier, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher, Murphy, Gerrard, Hamann, Riise, Owen, Heskey.

* Hyypia, Carragher and Heskey are one booking away from a Euro suspension.
