Benfica bid for Houllier

Houllier, who left Anfield last Monday after five years in sole charge of the Reds, is reported to be a top target for a team that has fallen behind a Jose Mourinho inspired FC Porto side in recent seasons.

With Mourinho now installed as Chelsea manager, Portugese newspapers are reporting that Benfica chief Jose Veiga has opened talks with Houllier in a bid to overhaul the Champions League winners next season.
