Valencia president Jaime Orti has claimed that Benitez walked out on the Spanish champions merely to earn more money at Anfield, a claim Benitez has strongly denied.
Benitez yesterday joined a Spanish radio phone-in to speak directly to Valencia fans saying: "I have worked in a highly paid profession for 18 years, successfully in recent years, so I have money in the bank. Money is not the motivation. When I didn't have any money I noticed the difference between having a little and having a lot, but not between having a lot and having an awful lot.
"I am perfectly happy with a wonderful family and so the only issue is the future- and I feel my future is best served by moving on."
On the phone-in Valencia fans said they couldn't blame Benitez for wanting to join Liverpool and they wished him well for the future.
