Benitez delighted with goal threat

Cisse, a club record £14m signing this summer, continued his golden touch in front of goal when introduced as a second-half substitute and the sight of Stephane Henchoz turning away in celebration will give even the most cynical members of the Anfield faithful a sense of optimism heading into the new campaign.

Benitez was delighted with the performance of his goal-getting side, but the took time out to praise provided to Djibril Cisse by much-maligned midfielder Danny Murphy.

Benitez said: "Cisse scored two goals and could have had two more. It's good for the team because we have a lot of players now who can score. It's good Henchoz scored too. People will think it's funny he scored but we need possibilities to score across the team.

"Danny Murphy is a very intelligent player and he immediately knew the right balls for Cisse and gave him good passes. I have told the players Cisse needs a ball to run onto and Murphy understands this well.

"In the second half, Cisse changed position twice and Murphy understood and made the right passes for him to help him score.

"Cisse is just one of a group of four strikers we have and in their way they are all different. All four of them played well. We can look at how each partnership plays together during these games."
