Benitez demands urgent talks

It was initially thought that the Liverpool chief executive played no part in the negotiations about possibly replacing Benitez, but the Liverpool manager wants to get the record straight.

"I was surprised with the people that were in the meeting," he said. "I need to talk with the board and clarify the situation. I want to do that as soon as possible - days, maybe hours.

"It is not affecting the players. They are winning and they know we must finish in the top four and progress in the Champions League. We must stay focused on football."
