Benitez has decided to rest some of his regular players, including Hyypia, Hamann, Garcia and Cisse. All four have already been told they will be remaining in Liverpool when the squad travels down to London for the game.

Instead, tomorrow will see the likes of Mellor, Potter, Warnock and Whitbread play for the first eleven as Benitez uses the Millwall tie as a chance to see if any other Academy graduates are able to follow Stephen Warnock's example and become a regular part of the first team set-up.

"This is a good opportunity for me to use some of the younger players. They could give us possibilities for the future," said Benitez.

"Neil [Mellor] is scoring goals for the reserves and is a different type of player to the other forwards we have at the club. This is an opportunity for him to show us what level he's at."
