Berger closes in on Premiership move

The 29-year-old has been linked with Merseyside rivals Everton in recent weeks but it is thought that the Blues baulked at Berger's wage demands. The midfielder's agent refused to announce the identity of the club but Czech newspaper Sport claims the player will join either Leeds or Portsmouth.

Berger's agent said: "We're waiting for final negotiations with bosses of a Premiership club. But we've agreed we won't say which one just yet."
