Biscan set for derby start

Biscan is expected to form an unlikely partnership with Djimi Traore in the heart of Liverpool's defence. While every Liverpool fan would prefer to see Hyypia and Henchoz stride onto the pitch for such a crucial clash, Houllier insists that Biscan will prove to be a fine replacement.

Houllier said: "It's a big game for Igor but he will play. I have faith in him. Anyone who has seen him play at centre-half this season will know his qualities. He played against Manchester United, Southampton and Ipswich and was very good. He has the pace, power and skill to play in that position.

"It's unfortunate Stephane won't make the derby. We were checking on his fitness to see if it was possible to play in tomorrow's reserve game."
