Biscan was recalled to the squad after a two-year absence but the Liverpool defender went AWOL when he found out he was not selected for the team to face Bulgaria on Saturday.

According to newspaper reports he was later seen drinking in a nightclub with the former Newcastle United midfielder Silvio Maric.

"While I am coaching this national team Biscan will never play again," said an angry Baric. "He will never get a second chance."

President of the Croatian FA, Vlatko Markovic, added his views:"While I am president we will never call him again."

But Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier later defended his player: "Igor came to see me and said there were rumours going around about him.

"But he said that he simply walked out of the squad because he was not involved in the 18.

"He was back here training on Sunday and again today. Igor is not a drinker."

Was Igor right to walk out?
