Boss backs Kewell

Kewell has only just returned to the side after injury and there are still concerns over his fitness after he limped off during the cup final last week. Despite these concerns Rafael Benitez says the Australian can still play an important part in Liverpool's chase for a Champions League spot.

"Harry is a very good player and we need him fit for the rest of the games," says Benitez. "If he can play eight out of 10 games that would be good, although I would rather he played in a lot more because then we would be in the final of the Champions League!

"Harry knows our ideas and that we want him for the rest of the season. He's noy 100% but when you talk about good players sometimes 80% is enough. Sixty per cent of Harry is a good player, 100% a fantastic player.

"He is still in pain, we know that, but we have been talking with the doctor and he knows he will have to play with the pain. With pain some players play better and others find it more difficult. His main problem is with his groin but he suffered a different problem in Cardiff, he took a kick on the ankle.

"We know we have to be careful with Harry and we will try to protect him for the important games in the future. We can't use Morientes in the Champions League and now Mellor is out for the season, so Harry, Le Tallec, Luis Garcia and Baros are very important for us now."
