Boss boosts Biscan

The Reds manager has been so pleased with the Croatian's pre-season form - particularly his fine display against Valencia - that he is ready to hand the 25-year-old a rare starting place against Claudio Ranieri's expensively-assembled Chelsea side this Sunday.

Houllier said: "Centre midfield is not a position Igor has played in for a long time but his defending and passing was okay against Valencia. He has a good chance of starting next week, and I think he will be playing more this season than he realises.

"He can play at centre midfield and centre-back, and every time he has played at centre-back, he has played well. He is strong and powerful and quick. Sometimes he loses the ball when he passes but then who doesn't? I prefer players who try things.

"The fans were with him against Valencia and they wanted him to succeed."

"Clubs from abroad are queuing to take him on loan for a year, but I refuse to let him go out on loan. I believe in him and I have every faith in him."

Should Biscan start in central midfield on Sunday?
