"It was a tactical move as I wanted Stephane out on the pitch," he said. "They had a lot of space down the left flank in the first half and we were struggling.

"I wanted the young boy Otsemobor to show more from an offensive point of view than he did.

"It would have been ideal for us to have Steve Finnan available to play as that's the type of game he would have relished as we had to defend as well as attack."
