Boss has faith in Pongo and Mellor

Both Pongo and Mellor featured against Birmingham at the weekend and while neither looked comfortable against the Brummies, Benitez believes both players can come good tonight.

He said: "Sinama and Mellor will play and then after the game we will talk about their future. If they play well, we will have more possibilities. If they don't play well, we will need to play more and prepare each game in a different style.

"I just tell the young players to try to do the things that they know. Try to work for the team and then after we will see. If you don't score but play well and contribute towards the team playing well, then in the end it is good for the team.

"If you say to Sinama you must go to the right side and leave a space for Kewell to go to the left side, and then he plays all the game on the right and never touches the ball but leaves a space for Harry Kewell, then for me he's played well, but for you not very well.

"He needs to do the things that we talk about before. The only thing he can improve on is when he touches the ball, he needs to do more things and then afterwards he will have more confidence. Then all the supporters and journalists will say he played well."
