Liverpool's young players have already earned the club a place in the Carling Cup semi-final and Rafael Benitez now wants them to earn the club a place in round four of the FA Cup- and has promised the youngsters he will keep them in the first team should they do so.

"I hope this is not going to be the last game of the season for a lot of the young players because that will mean they've won the match," said Benitez.

"The more we win, the more games they will play. Sometimes the best players are not necessarily the most famous players.

"A famous player could go to a stadium like tonight, see the pitch and think 'I can't play on this'.

"When you have a lot of games, you need to use all the players. If we don't win, it will depend on our situation how much the young players will play this season, but they can look at Steven Gerrard.

"When he was 17 he was the best player around at that age and he pushed himself into the first team. If players like Potter, Welsh, Raven and Whitbread play well, they can play in the Premiership."
