Boss to keep faith with kids

Benitez sent out a young side last night and was rewarded with the likes of Whitbread, Warnock, Pongolle and Potter all playing very well and leading the Reds to a comfortable win over a niggly Millwall side.

Benitez was impressed with the performance of his young stars and has hinted that they may well get another chance to shine in round four.

He said: "It was a hard game but the players played extremely well, they kept the ball well, pressed well and stayed calm. It was important they did that in these circumstances.

"All the players remained in control and that was very important. If they didn't have the right mentality then they wouldn't be able to concentrate on what to do with the ball and we would have been in trouble. But they did.

"We decided to go at them from the start and I thought we controlled the game.

"Young players can only improve their confidence by winning these kinds of games and handling them so well. We will see what happens in the next round but already it is in my mind to play them again because they did so well."
