Boss unhappy with Diouf contribution

Gerard Houllier has revealed that he was especially disappointed with El Hadji Diouf's contribution or lack of it against Valencia on Tuesday evening.

The fire's been put out
"Even if El Hadji didn't play at the level I'd hoped he would," said the boss.

"Maybe the game was too big for El Hadji Diouf on the night.

"Some of my players are very inexperienced and they will learn from this. It's just a fact that when you play away from home you need to have a better ball retention. We did not have that.

"I knew the game would be physical and we didn't respond enough.

"I can't remember a Liverpool team so weak in the challenge. It was not my side. I didn't recognise them."
