Boumsong blow for Reds

The highly-rated French international defender, who had looked set to move to Anfield alongside fellow Auxerre star Djibril Cisse, has spurned the advances of several of Europe's best to join up with a delighted Alex Mcleish.

McLeish said: "Jean-Alain Boum-song has signed a pre-contract to sign for Rangers in the summer.

"We are delighted to get a player of that quality. Everyone has to remember that he was a free transfer, so there was no fee involved and that helps Rangers do the deal. It is a good bit of business."
