Bowyer update

Leeds United boss David O'Leary says he doesn't want to lose his influential midfielder Lee Bowyer.

Liverpool and Arsenal are ready to pounce and O'Leary admits it would be hard to find a replacement of his quality.

"Like every manager I don't want to lose good players because it is hard enough to get good players in," said O'Leary.

"That decision is taken above me by the plc board. They are the ones that give the contracts and set the contracts."

Meanwhile chairman Peter Ridsdale insists that Bowyer has forced the club into transfer listing him by rejecting a new deal.

"Given his current agreement expires in the summer of 2003 we had no option, but to place him on the transfer list and seek offers for his services," said Ridsdale.

"No player is transfer listed by Leeds United without the full agreement of the board and manager."
