"McDonald's is currently negotiating with Liverpool Football Club to close the Anfield restaurant before the start of next season," said a spokesman for the fast food chain.

The restaurant was opened as part of the new stand in 1995 but has been the subject of much criticism from some of the Anfield faithful, who believe the club sold out by allowing the Spion Kop to become commercialised.
