Calm down, calm down - Bowyer deal not dead

Last updated : 17 July 2002 By Kop Talk News

While the rest of the media run around like headless chickens in the glee that Lee Bowyer's proposed move to Anfield could fall through, we're just remaining calm, safe in the knowledge that there's a huge play of words going round at the moment.

"Lend us a million Ged"
We understand that there are no major problems regarding his personal terms (agreed earlier in the week) but a few minor snags as regards how Bowyer is going to pay his legal fees back to Leeds United/Liverpool.

Ridsdale will not allow Bowyer to leave until the player repays just under £1million. Liverpool are prepared to help Bowyer but they need to ensure that they too are protected incase he moves on in the future (and leaves owing us).

Sources close to Bowyer inform KopTalk that it is the repayment schedule (and how it is detailed within the clauses of his signing-on fee) that is causing problems with Bowyer's advisors and not the amount of his wages. They are however confident that something will be resolved as all parties are now desperate for the deal to go ahead before Friday of this week.

Bowyer has passed his medical and is now just waiting to receive the call from Houllier to pack his bags and make his way to Melwood.
