Cardiff pen brings closure for Riise

Riise was the only Liverpool player to miss a penalty in the European Cup final shoot out in Istanbul. Although his miss didn't cost Liverpool, Riise was determined to make up for that miss this time around.

"When I saw the ball in the back of the net I just started crying. My eyes were stinging. I was blinking away the tears and I started crying because it was like closure after what happened in Istanbul," revealed Riise.

"It hurt me so much to miss that penalty out there and it was amazing to put that behind me.

"As soon as it got to penalties I went straight to our manager and told him I wanted to take the fourth penalty beause of what happened in Istanbul. In the Champions League final I was carrying an injury which is why I tried to place it instead of using power which is what I normally do.

"This time I knew I had to go for power, that was the only thought in my mind. It still wasn't the best penalty, but it went in and a goal's a goal.

"I was so happy. I purposefully chose the fourth penalty to try and get some closure on Istanbul and I think the fans could see how much it meant to me. That was a great moment, a big moment in my life."
