Carra confused by Henchoz Swiss snub

30-year-old Henchoz is unlikely to face Anfield colleague Michael Owen on Thursday after falling out of favour in the international set-up, and Carragher believes that England would not have relished facing the uncompromising defender.

Carragher said: "Stephane is like the Swiss version of Martin Keown.

"I know how highly Michael Owen rates him and I don't think he'd relish having to play against Stephane if he has to.

"I'd say he's one of those defenders no striker particularly enjoys playing against. He's someone who defends with his life. When you talk about players who give blood for their team, he comes into that category.

"He's exactly what you want in a centre half. An out-and-out defender who's always in the right place at the right time.

"He may not be considered the most dominant of our centre-halves at Liverpool. Sami Hyypia is probably the one who's been noticed most over the last few season, but in terms of what he's done for the team he's highly appreciated.

"He reads the game well and goes in where it hurts, which is what you want from a defender.

"During Gerard Houllier's time at the club, I'd say he's been one of our most consistent players and when you think he's in a team with Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard, that's a big compliment."
