Carra milestone

The Liverpool vice-captain will become the first player in the club's history to reach this milestone when he plays in the San Siro on Tuesday night.

"To be the first Liverpool player to get to 100 European appearances is special. The most important thing is trophies but it shows you are doing something right to play that many games," said Carragher.

"It's a nice thing for me because of Liverpool's tradition in Europe. It is something I am proud of because Liverpool is such a big club. It's hard to make history or do something nobody else has done.

"Usually with Liverpool, whatever you do, somebody else has done better. I think back to winning three cups in 2001. It was a special season but because we're Liverpool and there is so much history and success, people don't talk about it in comparison with other things. That's what it is like at Liverpool.

"That's why Istanbul in 2005 was special. People will still talk about that in 50 years.

"It is only when you look back at games like that, you realise what you've achieved. And by that time, it's gone! I would love to go back.

"You probably never savour or seize the moment at the time, it only sinks in later. Even now, I don't think about things, although I do a little bit with the Premier League.

"I'm desperate to win that. But, at the end of the day, if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen - and winning the European Cup isn't a bad consolation if it never happens."
