"It is easy to switch from friendlies to competitive games, we have to do it every year after pre-season, but we do treat pre-season games as important. We said before the Lazio game that that was our first game, really. It was a full house against a top-class side," said Carragher.
"Every pre-season is pretty much the same, all about getting the fitness ready for that first game. You can't judge how it has gone until you've played the first couple of games of the season. If we start well, we'll say we had a great pre-season; if we don't, we'll look at it the other way."
