Carra the unsung hero

Despite being arguably Liverpool's best player in many of their games, the Bootle lad knows it's the foreign players who always get the attention from the media and fans alike.

"Maybe I haven't been appreciated - I'm not saying as much as I should - but maybe not as much as some of the foreign players are," he said.

"I was an Everton fan as a kid and I was delighted to see them sign a big name rather than John Ebrell or Stuart Barlow coming through the ranks.

Carragher was one of the players singled out by the boo-boys a couple of seasons ago, when Gerard Houllier's side struggled to show any cosistency and flair.

"It's always been the way in football that, whatever club you're at, when things aren't going well it's often the local lad who gets the stick," he added.

"I noticed it a couple of times at Manchester United with Nicky Butt and especially Danny Murphy here."
