The bootle-born defender believes that new signing Harry Kewell's arrival, coupled with the vast improvement shown thus far this season by under-achieving duo Vladimir Smicer and El-Hadji Diouf, has heralded a new expansive style of play at Anfield.

Carragher said: "It's really exciting to watch at the moment. Harry Kewell has been one of the best players in the Premiership for many years and I'm sure he's going to be a massive player for us.

"I also think Dioufy and Vladi deserve some credit as well. Dioufy has been terrific on the right hand side for us and Vladi seems to be getting his second wind at the moment.

"Vladi was excellent against Tottenham, probably our best player. I also think both he and Dioufy were superb against Everton. You may expect players like them to be kicked up in the air in derby games, but I think they were too sharp and too good on the ball for some of the Everton players.

"It's great to see them playing so well and hopefully they can continue that at Blackburn this weekend."
