The 25-year-old former England international candidly revealed his fears for his future at the club soon after he suffered a broken leg at Blackburn Rovers, but club manager Gerard Houllier has revealed that Carragher will remain an integral part of his plans.
Houllier said: "I don't like to talk about individual contract talks, but Jamie knows what we think of him and you can be sure he will be looked after. You can take it that by the time Jamie is back to full fitness there will be a new contract for him.
"There's nothing specific on it, no timescale. But when we want a player to stay and that player wants to stay this club has always found a solution. I think it's fair to say Jamie falls into that category.
"Everyone knows what I think of Jamie. I made my feelings clear after his injury at Blackburn. He's Liverpool through and through. He loves this club and we appreciate what he does for us. As long as I'm here Jamie's future with Liverpool is safe."
