Jamie Carragher thinks he will be fit in time for the start of the new season.

The Liverpool defender is recovering after undergoing knee surgery back in May. The brace has been removed from his leg and he is now able to walk although it will be a while before he can run.

"It is getting better as each week passes but I still feel like I could do with more time before preseason starts," said Carragher, a player that would run through a brick wall for the club.

"I have started doing some walking on the treadmill. The lads come back in two weeks time and I can't wait to get back but I wish there was more time for me.

"I think four months is the worst it could be. I haven't given up hope of being fit for the start of the season and I think I can make it. I'll be looking after myself over the summer and we'll see what happens."
