The Bootle-born star returned to training this week for the first time since he suffered a broken leg in the Reds' 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park back in September.

While the 26-year-old defender has not yet set a date for his long-awaited first-team comeback, he admits that he is eager to play his part in resurrecting Liverpool's bid to bring Champions League football to Anfield.

Carragher, speaking to the club's official website, said: "It was great to get back on that training pitch with the lads. Obviously, with there being a game a couple of days before the session wasn't too strenuous but it felt good just to be mixing with the lads again and enjoying the banter.

"With the lads still recovering from the game on Saturday we had a non contact game and I felt fine afterwards. I'll be stepping up my training in the next few days and I'm looking forward to my first tackle!

"I'm not pencilling in any definite date for a comeback just yet. It'll be up to the physios and the doctor when I'm ready to play in a practise game and I'll know when it's right to return."
