Carragher ready for Finnan fight

Finnan, who will come up against Carragher at Anfield this Saturday, is said to be among Gerard Houllier's main targets this summer. Carragher knows that the Irishman would be bought to replace him - a situation he won't easily accept.

Carragher said: "I'm not kidding myself - if Steve Finnan came I don't think it would be to sit on the bench here.

"No-one has denied the rumours so there must be something in them, but what can you do?

"I'd rather he'd not come, obviously. But if I were to get injured now, no disrespect to the other players here, but I don't know who would come in.

"There have been a few defenders who have come and left because I have been in their position - and bigger names than Steve Finnan. Liverpool are a big club and if they feel this position needs improving then they'll do it. It's up to them."
